Jim Baldwin's visit to Gennett Factory site

Gennett 2 I parked and descended a long stairway to the path along the river leading tothe ruins. After crossing a temporary bridge this was my first view of the site. Gennett 3 I turned to the left to capture this retaining wall. The river is below the trees. This area was where the recording studio once stood. Gennett 4 The smoke stack left standing from the power plant. Gennett 5 I turn to the left to capture the one building left standing. All of the remaining buildings were razed some time ago. There are only a couple of small structures left besides this. The whole area has been cleaned up, plenty of parking provided and sidewalks and paving done. A later museum is planned as you can read about on the Starr-Gennett website. See http://www.starrgennett.org/ Gennett 6 The backside of the piano factory. The building is gutted. This is an interesting photo as we don't often see buildings in this state of razing. Gennett 7 A view of the south end and a portion of the boiler house still standing (It looked to be too difficult to demolish as the walls were two feet thick) Gennett 8 An early record logo not used in marketing. See the detail on the website. Gennett 9 I stood at the front door for this interesting view. Gennett 10 I turned to the left. Gennett 11 I crossed the street to view the front. Gennett01 The display case of the Indiana welcoming center just inside the state line as you enter Richmond. A nice lady there knew exactly what I wanted to see of Gennett. She gave me directions and a map of the Whitewater Gorge area. Wayne Co. Musem 1 The last two cases. See those bricks. There are some down in the gorge, but you are not supposed to remove them. Wayne Co. Musem 2 The first record display on your left. Sorry for not greater detail but was limited on time and by the cheap camera. Wayne Co. Musem 3 A mockup of the original recording studio. The studio was photographed in many publicity releases. The Bix shot with the Wolverines is famous. Wayne Co. Musem 4 The Luby family was an important local group. Wayne Co. Musem 5 Sorry, don't recall who's instrument that was. Wayne Co. Musem 6 Three more display cases. Wayne Co. Musem 7 Now I start down the wall to the exit. Wayne Co. Musem 8 If anyone can go back there and properly photograph all the itms in detail, please let the website manager know. Wayne Co. Musem 9 Shots of the field recording van. Wayne Co. Museum 1
